Sigma-Profiler

Project Name: I.3.3a Re-locatable underwater stations - Sigma-Profiler
Project Leads:
Tom Sanford and Jim Carlson

Project Description Circuit Analog for Dipole Source on River Bed
The Sigma-Profiler will operate without a cable connection in the North Channel of the Columbia River near the Astoria Meglar Bridge. The battery-operated, bottom-mounted sensor will include a SBE19 CTD. The sensor will communicate via a WHO acoustic micro-modem with APL’s Bridge Gateway Node that is to be installed on Pier 11 of the Bridge. The instrument will be programmed to collect data on a specified schedule, logging the data internally and periodically (hourly) transmitting the data to the pier mounted APL Acoustic Bridge Gateway Node via an acoustic modem. The APL receive acoustic modem will connect to the Internet through the Saturn SWAP2 network node installed on Pier 11 of the bridge. Remote programming of the Sigma-Profiler to change mission parameters will be provided.
