Project I.4.3: Model services and interfaces
Project Name: I.4.3 Model services and interfaces
Project Leads: Cyber infrastructure Team
Web: Simulations site, Forecast site
Project Description
This project provides an interface for launching simulation models together with access to simulation model results for both end-users as well as end-user application programs. End-user access to simulation model results is provided through the Rapid Deployment Forecast System (RDFS) that provides 1-3 day forecasts for a number of estuarine and coastal models. RDFS is composed of three main parts; 1) a backend compute server farm executing forecasts in batch mode; 2) scripts, services, and daemons used to process model output to generate data and visualization products; 3) a web interface to easily navigate a wide selection of model derived products and provide context with a variety of map overlays. Applications can be developed that access simulation model results through the ModelAPI that provides a high-level application programmer interface to model data, enabling the development of advanced data integration, visualization and analysis tools.
Fits in program
Simulation model results are key components in understanding the state, variability, and change of the system. Simulation model results must be accessible to end-users as well as to other computational tools used for data integration, visualization, and analysis.
Outcomes
End-users can configure and launch simulation models, and access model derived data products. Application developers can develop applications that directly access simulation model results.
