8/14/07 CMOP REU Open House

08/14/2007 - 2:00pm

This summer, through NSF's Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU)
program, four interns joined the CMOP team at SoSE for a 10-week
exploration of the use of post-Columbia River Estuarine Turbidity
Maximum technologies and processes to facilitate the identification,
characterization and analysis of Columbia River ETMs.

On Tuesday, August 14, you are invited to join us at the REU Open House
as three of the interns present their research findings. Each intern
will present for about 15-20 minutes, then answer questions. The
presentations will be followed by an informal reception. The Open House
will be in PC 401, and begin at 2:00.

*Please let me (Anne Herman) know if you will attend by Thursday,
August 9.*

Peter Kahn, Willamette University, will present "18S rRNA Clone Library
of Phytoplankton in the Columbia River and its Coastal Margin"

Kira Kranzler, The Evergreen State University, will present "Microbial
Manganese Oxidizers and Reducers in the Columbia River"

Nick Hagerty, Brown University, will present "Incorporating Scientific
Judgment into Workflows at an Ocean Observatory"

Solomon Reisberg, Reed College, will not present. His work is
"Physical Study of Estuarine Turbidity Maxima in Columbia River Estuary
using Models"
