CCALMR's
biogeochemical rotating annular flume (RALF).
RALF provides a meso-scale system ideally suited to investigate individual processes and interactions among physical, chemical, and biological processes at shear-driven sediment-water interfaces (SWIs).
Annular flumes have been used extensively in the past for the study
of purely physical processes (e.g. density interfaces, particle erosion
and transport, etc.), but have historically been limited with respect to
the study of chemical or biological processes. RALF expands on prior
annular flume designs so as to allow for the collection of chemical and
biological data.
